ARLINGTON AVENUE BRIDGES PROJECT – 1ST STREET TO ISLAND AVENUE

  • Arlington Avenue will close between West 1st Street and Island Avenue.  
  • Northbound traffic will be detoured to Virginia Street or Center Street.  
  • Southbound traffic and pedestrians will be detoured to the Sierra Street Bridge. 
  • West Street will be open to westbound traffic only between West Street and Stevenson Street.  
  • Wingfield Park will remain closed from May 5, 2025, until summer 2026.  
  • River recreation detours will also be in place.  


ARROWCREEK PARKWAY & WEDGE PARKWAY REHABILITATION

October 13 – October 18
Paving operations will begin on Wedge Parkway on October 13, 2025, and will continue through the week of October 20, 2025.  During this time, one-way traffic will be maintained in the northbound direction, in the northbound lane.

Arrowcreek Parkway 

  • Work on Arrowcreek Parkway is substantially complete.

Wedge Parkway – Phase 3B Southbound Reconstruction (Mt Rose Hwy to Whites Creek Lane) 

  • Wedge Parkway will have one-way traffic maintained in the northbound direction, in the northbound lane, through Phase 3B work duration.
  • The southbound lane of Wedge Parkway will be closed from Mt Rose Hwy to Arrowcreek Parkway. 
  • Access will be maintained to neighborhood streets; however, during pulverizing and paving operations, side street access directly off Wedge Parkway may be inaccessible for a duration of up to (1) hour. 
    • One entrance will be accessible at a time for neighborhoods with multiple access points. 
    • For neighborhoods with one access point (such as Quicksilver Drive), ½ of the access into and out of the neighborhood will be open at a time.  Flagger controls will be in place. 
  • Vehicles and pedestrians should follow posted detours; please use alternate routes such as:  Arrowcreek Parkway, Thomas Creek Road and S. Virginia Street. 
  • Normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
    • Work is scheduled to occur on Saturday, 10/18/2025, and will utilize Wedge Parkway Phase 3B traffic control configuration and signed detours described above.

MILL STREET CAPACITY & SAFETY

New Lane Configuration
Mill Street is restriped in a new temporary lane configuration from west of Kietzke Lane to I-580 and the speed limit is reduced to 30 mph. Drivers are asked to use caution through lane shifts and note changes to turn lanes at the Mill/Kietzke intersection. No on-street parking is allowed in this area. These temporary traffic conditions will be in place through 2025.

Bus Stop Closures
RTC RIDE bus service may be temporarily impacted within the project area. Detours or changes to bus stop locations will be noted in advance at the affected bus stop and at https://rtcwashoe.com/alerts/

In the event of a closure, riders should follow signage to the nearest bus stop of call RTC customer service at (775) 348-RIDE (348-7433) for real time information.

SPARKS BOULEVARD CAPACITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT – NORTH PHASE

Construction started Monday, September 15, 2025, and will continue through June 2027. Project limits are from intersection of Sparks Boulevard/I80 westbound ramps to the intersection of Sparks Boulevard/ Shadow Lane.

The community is encouraged to stay informed about the project by accessing the project website (www.sparksblvdproject.com), or by texting “Sparks” to 866-540-8466.  

Construction operations will mostly take place from 5:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in the northbound direction and 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the southbound direction, Monday through Friday. Nighttime work and marathon weekend work are anticipated, with traffic control updates communicated in advance of this work. 

October 10 – October 13

The community can expect the following traffic control:
Southbound (9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday – Friday)
Single lane closure Sparks Boulevard between O’Callaghan Drive and Baring Boulevard
Northbound (5:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Monday – Friday) 
Single lane closure Sparks Boulevard between Lincoln Way and Prater Way
Single lane closure Sparks Boulevard between Springland Drive and Baring Boulevard 
Howard Drive Detour:
Howard Drive closed at Sparks Boulevard. Detour available via Fargo Way to O’Callaghan Drive.


TRAFFIC SIGNAL FIBER 25-01

Installation of traffic fiber on Vista Boulevard from Prater Way to Baring Boulevard, Longley Lane from Maestro Drive to S. McCarran Boulevard, Kietzke Lane from Fisherman’s Park to Galletti Way, and Galletti Way from Kietzke Lane to Glendale Avenue.

Vista Boulevard

  • Intermittent lane restrictions for miscellaneous construction.

Longley Lane

  • Intermittent lane restrictions for miscellaneouse construction.

Kietzke Lane & Galletti Way

  • Single lane closures for trenching operations.

VETERANS ROUNDABOUT MODIFICATIONS

October 13 – October 17

Phase 3 new PCCP will be placed this week. Additional work items generally include:  construction of concrete improvements (curb, gutter, sidewalk and ramps) and electrical/ITS underground. Striping within the roundabout may occur this week; intermittent closures and night work may occur mid-week to accommodate this work. 

  • A minimum of one paved travel lane will be open in each direction.
    Left turn lanes at all signalized intersections will be open. 
  • Short traffic delays may occur during this phase of construction.
  • Access will be maintained to adjacent properties. 
    • Temporary driveway closures may occur during certain construction activities; and if so, Q&D will provide notice to impacted properties 18-24 hours prior to start of work. 
  • Normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
    • Night work may occur mid-week to accommodate striping in the roundabout. 
  • Vehicles and pedestrians should follow posted detours. 
  • Alternate routes, such as utilizing S. Virginia St and newly improved Steamboat Pkwy, are encouraged in an ongoing effort to alleviate traffic through the work zone when possible. 

VISTA AND DISC INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Motorists can expect the following traffic impacts Mondays thru Fridays, for construction of new and extended turn lanes at the Vista Blvd and Disc Dr intersection: 

  • Various lane closures on Disc Drive between Sparks Boulevard and Vista Boulevard.
  • Various lane closures on Vista Boulevard between Iratcabal Drive and Caledonian Drive
    • Southbound Vista closures will occur between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    • Northbound Vista closures will occur between 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Periodic closure of driveways to access the Spanish Springs Center will be necessary. Access to this shopping center will be available via alternate driveways along Disc Drive and Vista Boulevard with signage provided.
  • Various sidewalk closures will also be in effect along Vista Boulevard and Disc Drive. Pedestrian detours will be signed as needed.

Occasional work on Saturdays may occur with the project. Expect lane closures on Saturday, October 11th.

Work is expected to continue through the end of October.
