ARLINGTON AVENUE BRIDGES PROJECT – 1ST STREET TO ISLAND AVENUE

Arlington Avenue will be closed between West 1st Street and Island Avenue. Northbound traffic will be detoured to the Virginia Street Bridge or Center Street. Southbound traffic and pedestrians will be detoured to the Sierra Street Bridge.

  • Wingfield Park will remain closed from May 5, 2025, until summer 2026.

MILL STREET CAPACITY & SAFETY

Construction on Mill Street will temporarily shut down during Hot August Nights, August 1 to August 10. Beginning Sunday night, August 10, construction will continue during both night and day shifts. Morning crews work from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and night crews begin at 7:00 p.m., Sunday night to Friday night. Drivers will see single lane closures and some traffic signals will be flashing red, four-way stop condition during night work.

Look Ahead

Matley Lane at Mill Street will be closed for 14 days beginning on Sunday night, August 10. During this closure, traffic will not be permitted to exit or enter Matley lane from Mill Street. All traffic will be directed to use Vassar Street to access Mately Lane through detour signage. Traffic exiting businesses along Matley Lane will be directed toward Vassar Street. The closure is needed to complete the permanenet configuration and new design of Mill Street.

Construction on E. Lincoln Way between Marina Gateway Drive and Sparks Boulevard is anticipated to continue through September.   

  • Normal working hours are 9:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday morning.
  • Scheels roundabout will be fully closed during night-time working hours.
  • One paved travel lane in each direction will remain open through E. Lincoln Way between Sparks Boulevard and Marina Gateway Drive during the day.
  • There will be limited access to/from Scheels Drive, George Ferris Drive, and north mall access through the Scheels roundabout intermittently during the day throughout construction. Alternate access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

ARROWCREEK PARKWAY & WEDGE PARKWAY REHABILITATION

Paving operations will start on Arrowcreek Parkways from Thomas Creek Road to approximately the west side of the Arrowcreek Parkway/Wedge Parkway intersection.

Arrowcreek Pkwy 

  • A full closure on Arrowcreek Pkwy, from approximately the west side of the Wedge Pkwy/Arrowcreek Pkwy intersection to the east side of the Thomas Creek Rd/Arrowcreek Pkwy intersection, will be in place through paving operations.  Traffic will be detoured to Mt Rose Hwy and S. Virginia St via Thomas Creek Rd. 
  • Normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
    • Paving operations are scheduled to begin at 6:00 a.m. during the week of August 11, to avoid school-related traffic during designated drop-off times.

Wedge Pkwy 

  • Construction of concrete improvements will continue on Wedge Parkway next week; pending final permit approvals; two-way traffic will be maintained with intermittent closures:
    • Curb, gutter, sidewalk and pedestrian ramps improvements will be constructed in the southbound lane.


VETERANS ROUNDABOUT MODIFICATIONS

August 4 – August 8

Work will continue on the inside lane of the roundabout. Work during the week of August 11 will generally include: dig out of the new eastbound to southbound Geiger Grade Road slip lane, electrical and ITS underground work, and construction of concrete improvements.

  • A minimum of one paved travel lane will be open in each direction.
  • Left turn lanes at all signalized intersections will be open.
  • Short traffic delays may occur during this phase of construction.
  • Access will be maintained to adjacent properties.
    • Temporarily driveway closures may occur during certain construction activities; and if so, Q & D Construction will provide notice to impacted properties 18-24 hours prior to start of work.
    • Normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
      • Night work is tentatively scheduled to occur on Wednesday August 13 through Friday August 15 during placement of PCC pavement, starting at approximately 2:00 a.m. and ending at 5:30 a.m.
    • Vehicles and pedestrians should follow posted detours.

  • Various lane closures on Disc Drive between Sparks Boulevard and Vista Boulevard.
  • Various lane closures on Vista Boulevard between Iratcabal Drive and Caledonian Drive
    • Southbound Vista closures will occur between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
    • Northbound Vista closures will occur between 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
  • Periodic closure of driveways to access the Spanish Springs Center will be necessary. Access to this shopping center will be available via alternate driveways along Disc Drive and Vista Boulevard with signage provided.
  • Various sidewalk closures will also be in effect along Vista Boulevard and Disc Drive. Pedestrian detours will be signed as needed.
  • All turning movements at the Vista Boulevard and Disc Drive intersection will remain open during work.

Looking ahead

Work is expected to begin along Vista Boulevard and then eventually progress to Disc Drive Lane closures will remain in place for several weeks with crews switching sides of the road as the project progresses.

  • A minor shift from the current traffic control configuration is tentatively scheduled to start on Thursday 08/21/2025 – traffic will be shifted to the inside lane of the roundabout; crews will begin demo on the outside lane.
  • A minimum of one paved travel lane will be open in each direction.
  • Left turn lanes at all signalized intersections will be open.
  • Short traffic delays may occur during this phase of construction.
  • Access will be maintained to adjacent properties
    • Temporary driveway closures may occur during certain construction activities; and if so, Q & D Construction will provide notice to impacted properties 18-24 hours prior to start of work.

    During the week of August 18, 2025, RTC’s Project design consultant will be on site to complete the final phase of geotechnical exploration. Work will generally occur near Rampion Way and 5th Avenue, starting at the southern most exploratory limit and moving north throughout the week. Working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closures on Sun Valley Boulevard are not anticipated as part of this work; however, temporary intermittent closures on some side streets may occur.

Utilities will be adjusted throughout the newly paved section of Arrowcreek Parkway; Thomas Creek Road to the west side of the Wedge Parkway/Arrowcreek Parkway Intersection, in the westbound direction. No work on Wedge Parkway is scheduled during this week.

    Arrowcreek Pkwy 

    • Arrowcreek Parkway Phase 2A Full Westbound Closure
      • Arrowcreek Parkway will be closed to traffic in the west/south direction during this phase of construction; traffic will only be allowed to travel east/north on Arrowcreek Parkway.
      • Left turns will not be Wedge Parkway onto Arrowcreek Parkway during this phase
      • Granite will be raising utilities in the westbound lane on the newly paved section og Arrowcreek Parkway (Thomas Creek Road to the west side of the Arrowcreek/Wedge intersection)
        • Intermittent closures will occur to complete this work
    • Normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
      • Saturday work may occur on August 30.

    Phase 2 of construction will start during the week of August 25; traffic control will shift motorists to the inside lane of the roundabout and the contractor will start PCCP demo in the outside lane. Other work items will generally include drilling light and RRFB foundations, electrical and ITS underground work, and concrete improvements including placement of the stamped norther island at the S. Virginia Street/Mt. Rose Highway/Geiger Grade Road intersection and curb and gutter. Drainage improvements will also occur during this week.

    • A minor shift from the current traffic control configuration is tentatively scheduled to start on Thursday 08/22/2025 – traffic will be shifted to the inside lane of the roundabout; crews will begin demo on the outside lane.
    • A minimum of one paved travel lane will be open in each direction.
    • Left turn lanes at all signalized intersections will be open.
    • Short traffic delays may occur during this phase of construction.
    • Access will be maintained to adjacent properties
      • Temporary driveway closures may occur during certain construction activities; and if so, Q & D Construction will provide notice to impacted properties 18-24 hours prior to start of work.
    • Normal working hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
    • Vehicles and pedestrians should follow posted detours.
    • Alternate routes such as S. Virginia Street and newly improved Steamboat Parkway are encouraged in an ongoing effort to alleviate traffic through the work zone when possible.
