Learn More About the Mill Street Capacity and Safety Project April 3
Reno, Nevada (April 2, 2025) – The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County is inviting the public to learn more about the upcoming Mill Street Capacity and Safety Project at a community meeting Thursday, April 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony.
The project spans from Yori Avenue through Kietzke Lane to Terminal Way, with construction beginning April 14.
“This project will significantly improve safety and traffic operations in the corridor,” RTC Project Manager Kim Diegle said. “Crash data revealed multiple incidents including fatalities on Mill which made these improvements even more urgent.”
Key improvements in this project include:
- Adding a third eastbound lane from west of Kietzke Lane to I-580 to provide a dedicated lane to the southbound I-580 onramp, improving traffic flow.
- Installing a traffic signal at Golden Lane to improve safety and traffic operations.
- Consolidating side street access by removing direct access from Louise Street and Redwood Place.
- Limiting Reservation Road access to right-in/right-out turns to improve safety.
- Restricting Matley Lane access to right-in/right out for more efficient traffic movement.
- Relocating overhead utilities underground to improve pedestrian movement and corridor aesthetics.
- Constructing new sidewalks to ensure ADA accessibility.
- Adding continuous bike lanes through the corridor.
Regional partners for the Mill Street Capacity and Safety Project include the RTC and City of Reno. This project represents a $30 million investment in our community.
