FOR RELEASE: Paving Starts Tuesday for Steamboat Parkway Project

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is continuing work on the Steamboat Parkway Improvement Project. Paving operations will begin on Tuesday, September 3, and continue through Friday, September 6, from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. While roads will remain open during paving operations, through traffic is encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.

Detour Map for Project

Paving operations will take place on westbound Steamboat Parkway from just east of the Steamboat Parkway/Veterans Parkway intersection to the Steamboat Parkway/Marketplace Lane intersection, and on northbound Veterans Parkway on the inside left turn lane onto westbound Steamboat Parkway.

During paving operations, westbound traffic on Steamboat Parkway and northbound traffic on Veterans Parkway near the Steamboat Parkway intersection will be reduced to one lane. Eastbound traffic on Steamboat Parkway and southbound traffic on Veterans Parkway will not be impacted.

There will be intermittent closures at the Marketplace Lane entrance/exit from the shopping center and at the driveway entrance to the shopping center near The Twisted Fork. There may be short periods where both entrances/exits are closed at the same time. To access the shopping center during paving closures, please use the driveway entrance from Steamboat Parkway near Roberto’s Taco Shop/CVS, or enter from Damonte Ranch Parkway at Promenade Way.

Crews will be placing approximately 1,800 tons of asphalt during paving operations. Asphalt is heated to more than 300 degrees Fahrenheit for paving.

To help keep everyone safe, the RTC is encouraging pedestrians to follow detour signs within the construction zone. Pedestrians can also choose to take RTC FlexRIDE service that is available for free in the construction zone for the duration of the project.

Additional paving operations for this project are scheduled to take place at night during the week of September 9 at the Veterans Parkway/Steamboat Parkway intersection.

The project is anticipated to be complete this fall.
