Press Release: 4th Street Project in Sparks Reaches Substantial Completion

AUGUST 29, 2023

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and Q&D Construction have reached substantial completion of the 4th Street Reconstruction Project between Greenbrae Drive and Gault Way. Crews completed the project on time and under budget.

Crews removed and replaced the deteriorated structural section of the roadway, installed new sidewalk, curb and gutter, corrected localized drainage deficiencies, and reconstructed existing pedestrian ramps and driveways. The project included nearly 15,000 square feet of new sidewalk, including a wider section in front of Greenbrae Elementary School. The new sidewalks improve safety for pedestrians along the corridor, especially for children who use them to walk to and from Greenbrae Elementary School and Drake Elementary School. The project improved three RTC bus stops by adding space at each location.

The partnership between the RTC, Q&D Construction, and the City of Sparks minimized impacts to the public by completing the roadway work immediately following the City of Sparks Sanitary Sewer and Storm Drain improvements, TMWA’s water facility upgrades, and NV Energy’s gas upgrades.

Construction on 4th Street started in December of last year, so the RTC appreciates the public’s patience. Q&D adjusted the construction phasing to accommodate the first day of the 2023-2024 Washoe County school year.

This project represents a $3.1 million investment of local fuel tax funding as part of the Pavement Preservation Program.
