AUGUST 7, 2023
Due to public safety concerns with traffic patterns, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and Sierra Nevada Construction (SNC) will close the south end of Mesa Park Road for the remainder of the 4th Street and Woodland Avenue Roundabout Project, which is expected to last through September. The safety of workers and the traveling public is the top priority during this project. Traffic control flagging and lane closures will continue on 4th Street between Mesa Park Road and Woodland Avenue to allow crews to complete their work, safely. The RTC appreciates the public’s patience during this project.
About the 4th Street and Woodland Avenue Roundabout Project:
This phase of work includes construction of a retaining wall between West 4th Street and Mesa Park Road and transition into roadway improvements and roundabout construction. The project is anticipated to be completed by the end of September 2023.
- Mesa Park Road from W. 4th Street to 500 feet north is closed for the duration of the project.
- Traffic control flagging and lane closures will continue on 4th Street between Mesa Park Road and Woodland Avenue
Normal Construction Hours are 7 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday.
The purpose of the roundabout is to improve safety at the intersections of West 4th Street and Woodland Avenue and West 4th Street and Mesa Park Road. Both intersections have stop signs but high vehicle speeds on West 4th Street make it difficult for drivers to find gaps to enter the roadway.
A study shows that the roundabout will reduce the number of crashes at these intersections by 30 percent. It will also reduce crash severity by slowing the speed of traffic.
The project will also include an eight-foot multi-use path and crosswalks to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
