PRESS RELEASE: TRAFFIC SHIFT ON SILVER LAKE ROAD

AUGUST 4, 2023

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and Spanish Springs Construction are temporarily closing the eastbound lane of traffic on Silver Lake Road as part of the Sky Vista Parkway Widening & Rehabilitation Project. The traffic shift will begin Wednesday, August 9 and continue for approximately six weeks. An eastbound detour will be in place on Stead Boulevard, Lear Boulevard and Sky Vista Parkway.

The closure is part of the construction of the west side of the new roundabout on Sky Vista Parkway at the entrance of the North Valleys Regional Park. The traffic switch will also open traffic lanes on Vista Knoll Parkway, restore pedestrian access on the east side of Sky Vista Parkway, and allow the entrance of the park to reopen.

About the Sky Vista Parkway Project:

The project limits are on Sky Vista Parkway from Silver Lake Road to just east of Vista Knoll Parkway. As part of the project, the RTC will widen the road from one lane in each direction to two lanes in each direction. There will also be improvements for other roadway users.

The RTC will be adding new street lighting for safety, along with brand new eight-foot-wide sidewalks, and five-foot-wide bike lanes on both sides of Sky Vista Parkway.

Construction on the project is anticipated to be complete late this year, weather permitting. This project represents an approximate $18.3 million investment in our community.
