PRESS RELEASE: TRANSPORTATION DEMAND MANAGEMENT WEEK

SEPTEMBER 15, 2023:

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is encouraging the community to participate in Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Awareness Week, which runs from Monday, September 18 through Friday, September 22. The campaign raises awareness about alternative modes of transportation for commuting to work, such as taking public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, walking, biking or working remotely.

Businesses that participate have the ability to motivate their employees to use greener commuting options. Every person that participates generally takes one vehicle off the road, reducing air pollution.

“TDM is a great opportunity for businesses to think outside the box and try something different,” Bill Thomas, RTC Executive Director said. “It benefits everybody because it reduces congestion, decreases our carbon footprint and improves air quality.”

With rising gas prices, participants can also save money at the pump. Overall, a sustainable and multimodal transportation system improves the quality of life, creates a better community and stimulates economic activity.
