PRESS RELEASE: GREG STREET NIGHT CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN

AUGUST 25, 2023:

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and Sierra Nevada Construction, Inc. (SNC) will begin nighttime work on Greg Street between Sparks Boulevard and Vista Boulevard. The project will happen from 7:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. each night from Sunday, August 27, 2023 through Saturday morning, September 2, 2023. The project will require some lane closures but the road will maintain two-way traffic.

The roadwork is part of the RTC’s 2023 Pavement Preservation Program. Crews will perform corrective maintenance by conducting profile grinding on the road. The process removes the top half-inch of concrete from the pavement to restore a smooth surface.

The Pavement Preservation Program keeps good roads in good condition and minimizes long-term costs. This proactive maintenance slows the rate of pavement falling into poor condition which requires costly, major reconstruction. It is six to 10 times cheaper to properly maintain streets than to allow them to fail and pay for costly reconstruction treatments.

2023 Corrective Maintenance will cost an estimated $2.4 million and is funded with local fuel tax revenue.
