RTC Now Accepting Applications for Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program

Reno, Nevada (March 20, 2025) – The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is now accepting applications for transportation projects as part of the Transportation Alternatives (TA) Set-Aside Program. Local governments, nonprofit organizations, and recreational trail entities are encouraged to submit proposals before the deadline on May 9.

The TA Set-Aside Program provides funding for projects that support pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, Safe Routes to School programs, recreational trails and other community-focused transportation initiatives. This program encourages projects that improve access to public spaces, promote active transportation, and contribute to a safer community.

“We are excited to support projects that expand mobility options and improve quality of life in the area,” RTC Senior Technical Planner Shay League said. “This program is a great opportunity to address smaller scale but critically important transportation projects.”

Examples of eligible projects include pedestrian and bicycle facilities, construction of turnouts or viewing areas, community improvements such as historic preservation, environmental mitigation related to stormwater or habitat connectivity, recreational trails, Safe Routes to School Projects, and vulnerable road user safety assessments.

Interested applicants can find detailed guidelines and application materials on the RTC website at www.rtcwashoe.com/TA_SetAside_Program, or by contacting RTC.
