RTC Hosts Public Hearing for the Lemmon Drive Traffic Improvements & Resiliency Project Environmental Assessment
Reno, Nevada (Feb. 5, 2026) – The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) have prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Lemmon Drive Traffic Improvements and Resiliency Project, a proposed infrastructure initiative designed to improve safety and protect the roadway from future flooding. The public is being invited to participate in a public hearing by reviewing and providing comments on the EA.
The project will realign and reconstruct Lemmon Drive between Fleetwood Drive and Ramsey Way, elevating the roadway above the 100-year floodplain to enhance safety, connectivity, and resilience during extreme weather events. This comprehensive improvement addresses critical infrastructure needs and provides continued access for residents and businesses in the area.
“This project represents a significant investment in our community’s long-term safety and mobility,” said Bryan Byrne, P.E., RTC Project Manager. “By realigning Lemmon Drive above flood levels, we’re not only improving traffic flow and safety, but also ensuring this vital corridor remains accessible during severe weather events.”
Community members can participate in the public hearing through two convenient options:
- Virtual Hearing: Available 24/7 from February 5 through March 9, 2026, at NorthValleysImprovements.com, allowing participants to review the EA and submit comments at their convenience.
- In-Person Hearing: Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Lemmon Valley Elementary School (255 W. Patrician Drive, Reno, NV 89506) from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a formal presentation at 6 p.m.
In compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), NDOT and RTC have conducted a comprehensive study evaluating the project’s potential environmental impacts. The EA is now available for public review and comment, with findings informing the final design and construction phases.
Public comments are essential to the project’s success and will be accepted through March 9, 2026, at 5 p.m. via:
