Construction begins June 15 on Military Road Capacity and Safety Project
$35 million investment widens and improves critical North Valleys corridor
RENO, Nev. (June 12, 2026) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) and Spanish Springs Construction will break ground Monday, June 15, on the Military Road Capacity and Safety Project, a $35 million investment in the North Valleys funded through Regional Road Impact Fees paid by developers to support growth-driven transportation needs.
The project will widen Military Road from two lanes to four between Lemmon Drive and Lear Boulevard and deliver intersection improvements, new traffic signals, a shared-use path, sidewalks and drainage upgrades designed to improve safety, mobility and connectivity throughout the corridor. Construction is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
During construction, crews will maintain one lane of traffic in each direction. Drivers can expect the following 24/7 lane shifts:
June 15 through mid-July: Military Road from just north of Kelly Lane to Lear Boulevard — storm drain work; two lanes of traffic shifted to the east side of Military Road, with some center-lane work shifting traffic to outside lanes.
Early July through August: Military Road from just north of Kelly Lane to Lear Boulevard — utility work; two lanes of traffic shifted to the east side of Military Road, with some center-lane work shifting traffic to outside lanes.
Traffic control is subject to change. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The project team will provide advance notice of any weekend work.
The Military Road project is part of RTC’s broader investment in the North Valleys. The Buck Drive Circulation Project is expected to be completed next month, and the Lemmon Drive Traffic Improvements and Resiliency Project is scheduled to break ground in 2027.
