Cycling
Whether you commute by bicycle or ride for recreation, the resources below will provide guidance and instruction to make your trip safe and enjoyable.
The Reno/Sparks Bike Map was created to depict existing bicycle facilities (lanes and paths).
The RTC recommends you familiarize yourself with the rules of the road, always bicycle with caution, and be aware of your surroundings when riding your bike. Please obey all laws and travel with care.
Public input is encouraged. Do you know of other bicycle facilities not shown on the Reno/Sparks Bike Map or spot a correction that needs to be made? Please submit questions, comments, and suggestions through the RTC Contact Form.
BIKE ON THE BUS
Loading your Bike:

- Lower the bike rack by pulling up on the release handle on the top of the bike rack.
- Lift your bike onto the rack, using the outside slot first, and fitting the tires into the slot. Labels indicate where to place the front and rear wheels.
- With the bike on the rack, pull the support arm out and up over the front tire to secure it.
Unloading Your Bike:
- Before exiting the bus (using the front exit) tell the driver you want to unload your bike.
- Pull the support arm out and down to release it from the tire.
- Lift your bike out of the rack, securing your bike.
- If the rack is empty, please fold it back up.
- Step onto the curb with your bike and signal the driver that you’re finished and it’s safe for the bus to leave.
Safety Information
Riding a bicycle after dark requires extra attention and proper preparation to help you stay safe, be seen, and avoid hazards. The RTC Washoe night biking safety guidance encourages riders to take the following precautions:
Be Seen – Lighting & Reflectivity
Use a white front light, a red rear light or reflector, and wear reflective clothing or accessories so drivers can see you from a distance.
Ride Defensively
Slow down, ride predictably, and stay alert for vehicles, pedestrians, and road hazards—especially at intersections and driveways
Follow Traffic Laws
Obey all traffic laws, ride with the flow of traffic, and signal your turns. Being predictable helps drivers understand and avoid you.
