RTC Recognized for Excellence in Transportation

Reno, Nevada (May 13, 2025) – The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County has received two awards recognizing excellence in innovation and transportation infrastructure.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Truckee Meadows Branch has awarded RTC Washoe the 2024 Transportation Project of the Year for the Oddie Wells Project, a transformative corridor improvement that enhanced safety, mobility, and multimodal access in the Oddie Wells corridor. Completed in September, the project represented a $51 million investment in the community by RTC, the City of Reno, and the City of Sparks.

In addition, the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Mountain Division has presented RTC Washoe with the Transportation Achievement Award for the Sparks Intelligent Corridors Project, an innovative intelligent transportation system (ITS) developed to revolutionize how agencies use real-time data to manage signal operations and reduce congestion. This project was a joint effort between RTC Washoe, City of Sparks, and the University of Nevada Reno.

“These awards reflect RTC’s commitment to building a safer, smarter, and more connected transportation network for our growing region,” RTC Executive Director Bill Thomas said. “We’re grateful for the leadership from our board members, the diligence of our staff and the support from our community that time and time again make these improvements successful.”
