Baring Boulevard intersection to close July 24 for Sparks Boulevard project

Crews to reconstruct the Baring Boulevard intersection as work continues

 

SPARKS, Nev. (July 22, 2026) — The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County, in partnership with the City of Sparks and Granite Construction, will temporarily close Baring Boulevard on both the east and west sides of the Sparks Boulevard intersection beginning Friday, July 24, to reconstruct the intersection as part of the Sparks Boulevard Capacity Project.

Sparks Boulevard will remain open to through traffic, and access to nearby neighborhoods and businesses will be maintained using signed detour routes. Motorists should follow posted detours and allow additional travel time while work is underway.

Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds, watch for changing traffic patterns and remain alert for construction crews and equipment while traveling through the work zone.

“This work represents another significant milestone in improving one of Sparks’ key transportation corridors,” said Jeffrey Wilbrecht, RTC engineering manager. “We appreciate the public’s patience as crews complete this phase of construction to enhance safety and mobility for everyone who travels through the area.”

The Sparks Boulevard Capacity Project will widen Sparks Boulevard, reconstruct intersections, upgrade drainage infrastructure and improve safety and mobility for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather, equipment availability or other unforeseen conditions.
