PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) initiated the Northeast Connector Feasibility Study (Study) to evaluate the potential for a new roadway connection linking east Sparks and Spanish Springs in Washoe County, Nevada, to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC) in Storey County, Nevada. The proposed connection would provide an alternate route between residential areas in Sparks and the TRI-Center regional employment hub, helping to reduce commuter congestion along Interstate 80 (I-80). Currently, I-80 serves as the sole direct connection between these areas and frequently experiences congestion with no available alternate route during traffic incidents, resulting in recurring delays, reduced travel reliability, and safety concerns.

This Study assesses the feasibility, potential impacts, benefits, and preliminary cost estimates of establishing a new connection at a planning level to determine if a viable corridor exists for potential future project development. A key component of the feasibility analysis involves evaluating potential corridor alignments. Identifying and comparing alignment options allows the Study to estimate traffic impacts on the existing roadway network and develop planning-level cost estimates to determine the most viable corridor.
