RTC, Storey County to Host Northeast Connector Special Meeting
RENO, Nev. (Sept. 22, 2026) – The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) and Storey County will host a special meeting Tuesday, Sept. 29, to discuss the Northeast Connector project and the corridors under consideration. The meeting will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Washoe County Chambers, 1001 E. Ninth St., Reno. The meeting also will be livestreamed on RTC’s YouTube channel.
The Northeast Connector Feasibility Study evaluated the feasibility of a potential new east-west roadway connection between Spanish Springs/east Sparks and the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC). The study evaluated whether a new connection could provide additional transportation capacity, improve regional travel reliability, support economic growth and provide information for future regional transportation decisions.
“Public input is an important part of the transportation planning process,” said RTC Executive Director Bill Thomas. “This meeting provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about the feasibility study, ask questions and provide feedback as the process continues.”
The study evaluated six potential corridor alternatives through a two-level screening process. The initial screening evaluated the corridors based on projected future traffic benefits, with the Vista Boulevard (Golden Eagle) and La Posada corridors advancing for additional evaluation. These two corridors were then evaluated in greater detail based on transportation performance, environmental considerations, engineering feasibility, right-of-way impacts and conceptual costs.
The Final Feasibility Report determined that both the Vista Boulevard (Golden Eagle) and La Posada corridors are feasible for potential future project development. The feasibility study does not identify a preferred corridor or commit either corridor to construction.
The corridor alignments shown in the Final Feasibility Report are planning-level concepts and would require additional refinement. If the Northeast Connector advances, future phases would include additional engineering, environmental review, public and agency involvement, identification of funding and additional approvals before a project could proceed to construction.
At this time, no decision has been made to advance either corridor into the environmental phase, and no funding has been specifically allocated for that purpose.
