PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The traffic Signal Timing project is a collaborative partnership between the RTC, Cities of Reno and Sparks, and the UNR Center for Advanced Transportation Education and Research. The goal of the project is to continue the re-timing of 1/3 of the signals each year and to expand signal timing plans to include weekends, holidays and special event plans, if possible. The schedule of work for a typical corridor consists of the following:

  • Collect traffic and signal data
  • Input timings into model and evaluate existing signal timing
  • Develop new timing and implement in the field
  • Fine-tune timing, and conducting before-after studies

This project will provide signal re-timing engineering services for a 3-year cycle beginning in July, 2023, and concluding in June 2026.

LATEST NEWS
New signal timing plans will be implemented in January for the following corridor:

  • Wells Avenue between Interstate 80 and Sutro Street
  • Oddie Boulevard between Sutro Street and Pyramid Way

The next corridors planned for retiming will be:

  • South McCarran Boulevard between Skyline Boulevard and Airway Drive
  • Sparks Boulevard between Greg Street and Los Altos Parkway (adaptive signal timing tes)
  • South Virginia Street between Longley Lane and US-395
