Virginia Line BRT improvements begin this weekend
Construction starts May 31 between Moana Lane and Hubbard Way
RENO, Nev. (May 29, 2026) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County (RTC) will begin construction on the Virginia Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Improvements Project at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 31. Initial work will take place on South Virginia Street between Moana Lane and Hubbard Way.
The project will add bus-only lanes on South Virginia Street from Peckham Lane to Plumb Lane, making service faster and more reliable for riders along one of Reno’s busiest corridors. Additional improvements include water line replacement, ADA-compliant sidewalk and driveway upgrades, drainage improvements and traffic signal upgrades.
“The Virginia Line BRT improvements are important for people who already use transit, and the community. Dedicated bus lanes, ADA-compliant infrastructure and enhanced stations make transit safer and more reliable,” said Kimberly Diegle, project manager for the Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County. “We’re excited to get to work.”
