Meadowood & Hidden Valley

NEIGHBORHOOD NETWORK PLANNING
The Neighborhood Network Plan (NNP) process seeks to make active transportation recommendations at a neighborhood scale, and creates a quick-build implementation plan on key corridors within the planning area. Meadowood and Hidden Valley is the 4th NNP planning area being studied by the RTC Active Transportation Program, and is scheduled to be approved by the RTC Board in 2026.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
The neighborhood is situated north of the Reno-Sparks urban core. The Golden Valley community is partially located in the northwest portion of the planning area. The planning area has a population of over 44,000 and is experiencing the effects of accelerated growth and economic development occurring within the North Valleys and Spanish Springs. The Sun Valley area has a compact, grid-like roadway network that lends itself well to multimodal transportation including biking and walking.
The neighborhood is located south of the Truckee River and east of I-580 in Reno and unincorporated Washoe County. The area contains a mix of suburban and rural development patterns, and has several access points to parks, recreation, and open space. With a population of about 23,000 residents, the housing density, employment centers, and outdoor recreation destinations in the neighborhood create strong potential for active transportation trips.
Plan Development
To help improve safety and connectivity for people walking, biking, and accessing transit within this neighborhood, as well as enhancing connections to nearby neighborhoods, the Neighborhood Network Planning process for Meadowood & Hidden Valley will:
- Gather public input;
- Assess current conditions;
- Review walking and biking patterns and connectivity to community destinations;
- Create improvement scenarios with project recommendations;
- Identify active transportation needs.
