Project Description

The RTC is beginning construction to improve and widen Military Road between Lemmon Drive and Lear Boulevard in Reno. The project will add safety, roadway capacity, and improve bicycle and pedestrian facilities to increase multimodal transportation options in the North Valleys area of our community. The project will also incorporate drainage improvements, provide access control, and modify intersections to improve safety and accessibility for everyone. This project represents a significant investment of approximately $35 million into our community, funded with Regional Road Impact Fees.

Construction Schedule:

June 15, 2026- Fall 2027

Construction Overview:

Construction will begin with underground utility and storm drain improvements, followed by construction of the west-side shared-use path, curb and gutter, and side street work. Once complete, crews will transition to similar improvements on the east side of the corridor. Paving and roadway widening are scheduled for 2027 and will take place in four separate work zones to help manage traffic and maintain access. Throughout construction, at least one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open, and access to homes and businesses will be preserved. Work will generally occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with weekend work scheduled as needed and communicated in advance. The project is anticipated to be completed in fall 2027.

Traffic Control Updates

• Now through early July:
  Periodic lane shifts will occur throughout the construction zone on Military Road between Lemmon Drive and Lear Boulevard as needed. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction at all times.
• Beginning in early July:
  Traffic between Lemmon Drive and just north of Kelly Lane will shift to the east side of Military Road while crews begin work on the west side of the corridor.

Latest News

The RTC, in cooperation with the City of Reno, has completed design and the project was awarded to Spanish Springs Construction. Construction has begun and is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2027.
